LASIK Q&A

What is LASIK?

LASIK is a type of laser eye surgery that involves reshaping the eye corneas using advanced laser technology. It treats nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. LASIK doesn’t treat presbyopia (near-focus issues as you age).

What technology is used to perform LASIK?

At Eye Care Specialists, internationally-renowned LASIK surgeon Dr. Heimmel uses the most advanced laser technology to perform LASIK procedures: the Contoura Vision system.

The Contoura Vision system uses corneal topography to precisely map up to 22,000 unique points on your eyes. This detailed information allows Dr. Heimmel to correct the shape of your eye while also improving the surface texture of your corneas.

What are the results of LASIK?

Clinical studies show that Contoura Vision patients reported improved vision equal to or better than glasses. At one year post-op, 92% of patients had 20/20 or better vision*. About 65% of patients enjoyed 20/16 vision, and 34.4% achieved a remarkably strong 20/13 vision*.

Along with improving eyesight significantly, Contoura Vision patients also reported a reduction in light sensitivity and glare and improved night driving*.

Contoura Vision can help you live free from glasses and contacts, so it’s one of the most popular outpatient surgeries today.

What if I don’t qualify for LASIK surgery?

In general, you need stable vision and healthy corneas to have LASIK surgery. Many patients don’t qualify for the procedure due to thin or irregular corneas, but there are a few alternatives that can correct your vision.

Lens exchange

Lens exchange surgery places a new lens containing your vision prescription into your eye. This type of surgery corrects the same refractive errors as LASIK and can also correct presbyopia.

EVO Visian™

The EVO Visian implantable collamer lens (ICL) corrects myopia and astigmatism. The implantable lens is made of collamer, which consists of a polymer and collagen. It provides a long-term correction but is reversible if needed.

Thanks to innovations in the world of ophthalmology you can still enjoy lasting vision correction even if you can’t have LASIK.

Eye Care Specialists offers the most competitive pricing on LASIK, and your procedure is performed by an elite surgeon. To learn more about LASIK and its alternatives, call the office or schedule your appointment online today.
